How to Use GMC’s MultiPro Tailgate

Your GMC vehicle, whether a pickup or SUV, has tons of features that help it to stand out from the rest of the vehicles on the market. In fact, some of these features you may not even be aware of. Therefore, we like to highlight some of them for you here on our blog.

One such feature is GMC’s MultiPro Tailgate. It sounds pretty great, but what exactly is it? More importantly, what does it actually do? Let’s dive in to explore its capabilities.

In essence, the MultiPro Tailgate is like having two tailgates in one. In addition to the primary gate that is hinged like a conventional tailgate, there is also a small gate hinged inside the full gate. This inner tailgate is the real star of the whole thing, allowing you to do a number of tasks.

How to Use GMC’s Smaller, Inner Tailgate

The inner gate can do quite a few things, and it can even enhance your experience while using the full tailgate. Allow us to explain.

Let’s say you are hauling some items that require you to have the tailgate down but you don’t want them sliding out of the bed. You can fold down the full tailgate and then lift up the panel on the inner tailgate as a barrier to keep everything in the bed contained.

If you lower the inner tailgate in addition to the full tailgate, the inner tailgate can be used as a step up into the bed. Today’s trucks are big and capable, but that means they’ve also become quite a bit taller than they used to be. This is a helpful and safe way of accessing the rear bed. 

Lastly, if you want to leave the full tailgate up, you can fold down just the inner tailgate and use it as a workstation. Use it to easily organize your tools before a job or simply use it as a convenient place to set your coffee mug in the morning while you clear snow off the windshield.
